Fasten

Fasten is a concept brought into fruition by a driving passion to meet the unmet needs of others. Our fixpartner Jack, has special needs (DS), making it difficult to open and close the traditional trousers belt buckle and zipper due to reduced dexterity. This has stunted Jacks ability to independently attend to the toilet and dress himself. Fasten has afforded Jack with a greater level of independence, enabling him to efficiently and single handedly manage his trousers.

Perfect Ease for Jack

Jack experiences trouble opening the traditional belt buckle. The problem is caused by "the point of action”, at the fingertips when opening the buckle. To solve this physical problem, Fasten replaces the belt with an elastic cord and toggle stopper. It provides perfect ease for Jack, designed for easy pull-on, pull-off dressing, yet still comfortable, smart, and nice to wear.

The zip and button have been replaced by the use of velcro, magnets and elastic. The elastic pulls the fly closed, while the magnets auto-align the velcro fastening the trousers shut. This is an effortless and secure system. Throughout this project, it was important that anyone could easily replicate and adopt our design solutions.
